WHERE TO MEET – Meet at the main courtyard in Slieve Gullion Forest Park at 10.00am sharp. There are toilets and a coffee shop in the park. Please say if you intend to go on the walk and whether you would like to car share.
TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS – This walk is open to all and we are encouraging some of our neighbouring walking clubs to join with us for this walk. Can we encourage as many people as possible to car share, if you would like a lift or can offer a lift let us know at glenwalkers@gmail.com
HOW TO GET THERE – From Newry take the Dublin Road until the Cloghoge Roundabout (2km). Travel on the B113 towards Forkhill, for approximately 5km past Meigh until the sign for Slieve Gullion Forest Park on the right hand side of the road just before Drumintee. Follow the drive past the Courtyard Centre to the car park which is the start and finish of the walk.
DESCRIPTION OF THE WALK -This mountain walk explores the Slieve Gullion Special Area of Conservation using mountain paths, forest trails and country roads. The walk follows a circular route and is 9.5 miles long.
There are spectacular views of the Ring of Gullion and South Armagh countryside as the
walk ascends to the top of Slieve Gullion. there are features of interest associated with Irish myths and legends and there is an ancient burial chamber at the top of Slieve Gullion and it is possible to crawl inside.
