On Bank Holiday Sunday 5th May we are going to walk up Slieve Croob. Liam and Paula have already checked out the walk and they were impressed by the fine views and the easy access from Belfast. The walk begins in a small hamlet, Finnis, which is around half an hour from Sprucefield.
Owing to limited parking at the starting point, we think the best arrangements are to meet at the McDonald’s car park at Sprucefield at 9.30, to facilitate some car sharing, this should allow us to start the walk at about 10.00.
Although WalkNI lists the walk as a circular route but we think it best to go out and back (as well as up and down) on the Drin Road. There is a fair amount of the walk on a quiet road, then a concrete lane, followed by good turf, and then some boggy ground before another short track to the summit.
The walk should last about four hours with great views at the summit, where we might get lunch, and then we need to find a pub in Dromara or Hillsborough for a post-walk drink.
